Ok, I've done these before, and time and again, I've found that one of the problems has been finding any sort of aesthetic unity. Sometimes I was able to harness eclecticism, other times I failed. This time, I've decided to immediately go for a theme.
One thing that really interests me is the way in which various stereotypes don't really seem to exist. Let me explain: oh, the stereotype itself is definitely 'a thing', but there never seems to be a human being out there who embodies it. This I decided to look at in myself with my interest in Japan and Bleach anime in particular.
For, when I read this definition in the Urban Dictionary, I was, well, partly terrified that the writer might come and burn my house down, because it sort of fitted me:
'Weeaboo - Someone who is obsessed with Japan/Japanese Culture/Anime, etc. and attempts to act as if they were Japanese, even though they're far from it. They use Japanese words but usually end up pronouncing them wrong and sounding like total assholes. You can find alot of these faggots clogging up the forums of Gaia Online, hanging out in the international aisle of the supermarket, or crowding the manga section of your local bookstore. Synonym of wapanese.'
However, the more I have returned to Bleach and my interests in Japan recently, the more I have realied that my relationship with them both is a lot more complex than even I know, and certainly more complex than such definitions would suggest.
To that end, I have themed this blog in the very heighth of Wapanese fashion (Desu desu ne) to try and psychoanalyse my Bleach-love.
